Staff Accountant

Summary of Responsibilities
The Staff Accountant performs a variety of professional accounting functions. The Primary responsibility includes preparing tax returns, audit functions, and compiling, preparing and maintaining financial data and records for assigned clients ensuring that all financial data is recorded consistent with established policy and procedures.
Essential Functions
- Prepares tax returns and conducts tax research.
- Prepares a variety of detailed accounting and statistical functions relating to tax preparations and audits.
- Prepares work papers that are organized, neat, cross-referenced and supported by conclusions.
- Compiles raw data into trial balance format, including recapping cash receipts and disbursements.
- Practices effective communication when completing all tasks.
- Able to use reference materials in researching accounting issues.
- Maintain accurate records on time and expenses to ensure proper billing of clients.
- Complies with relevant continuing professional education requirements of the AICPA, State Board of Accountancy, Governmental Accounting Standards, and the Firm.
- Recommends and assists in the implementation of new or revised accounting systems.
- Enhances personal image of the firm by demonstrating “executive presence”. This means instilling confidence in those you meet by manner, spoken and written word and professional appearance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Experience
- Knowledge and skills usually acquired through a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience.
- Demonstrate ability to apply principles of accounting to analyze and prepare financial information.
- Computer literacy including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

- Accurate work with mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, division, percentages, fractions and ratios.

- Ability to maintain confidentiality of Firm and client information.
- Aptitude to learn and effectively use multiple software applications.
Working Conditions
Normal office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Additional hours are required from January 1 through April 15. There may be occasional travel overnight to out-of-town continuing professional education and client’s place of business.
