System Administrator
Classification: Full Time
Summary of Responsibilities
The System Administrator is responsible for assisting in the management of the Firm’s internal network systems in order to provide a stable working environment.
Essential Functions
- Support and maintain technology policies and procedures as developed by the Technology Team.
- Set up new workstations and users on network and provide access to appropriate software.
- Relocate information technology-related hardware as needed.
- Perform minor repairs to equipment and maintain hardware in good working order.
- Know the basic system functions on all network and utility programs.
- Coordinate the Firm’s Help Desk.
- Set up network printers, scanners, and infrastructure equipment.
- Regularly evaluate network resources, suggest and implement improvements.
- Provide internal support for all office software applications and hardware.
- Provide external consulting support to clients of the Firm as directed.
- Provide training as needed on hardware and software to internal and external clients.
- Monitor and initiate virus detection policies and procedures.
- Develop and monitor appropriate security procedures to safeguard system from physical harm, viruses, unauthorized users, and damage to data.
- Create, delete, and maintain employee profiles as they apply to network and software applications.
- Coordinate maintenance of PC’s, printers, and other hardware with management.
- Assist Firm’s employees with computer, network, and Internet problems.
- Attend continuing professional education courses in order to maintain knowledge.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills, Abilities, Qualifications & Expectations
- Experience working with Microsoft servers and Windows 2000/XP workstations.
- Familiarity with Windows Terminal Services, the Linux operating system and Apache/IIS web servers is desirable.
- Previous experience with accounting software packages, remote control applications, and system administration packages is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred in computer science or information systems.
Working Conditions
Normal office hours are 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. Monday through Friday. Overtime and travel is required. Many support functions need to be performed during off-peak hours. Travel to other offices does not typically require overnight stays.
